This painting was painted immediately following the completion of Gollon At Henley (Version II), commissioned by the River & Rowing Museum. In this work, full of tension and frustration and taken to a great extreme, Gollon seems to say goodbye in dramatic fashion to the subject matter of the losing rowers at the Henley Royal Regatta.
