£5,500. This painting was partially inspired by Chris Gollon reading a book by the celebrated physicist Richard Feynman, who described how in Renaissance times it was thought assistance by angels was the cause of planets not orbiting in perfect circles but in elipses. Feynman noted that although we still don't exactly know why, that in the modern day, until we know 100%, we could say it was due to "angels without wings". That simple phrase inspired this rhythmic and mysterious painting by Chris Gollon.
This painting is part of the series entitled 'Early Thoughts' produced by Chris Gollon in 2008 in preparation for his Fellowship & Residency at the Institute of Advanced Study, Durham University in early 2009. This work is also featured in 'Chris Gollon: Humanity in Art' by Tamsin Pickeral (Hyde & Hughes, 2010).
